Minimum Wage Increase

New National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2009

 

National Minimum Wage for persons aged 22 and over

£5.80 per hour (from £5.73)

 

National Minimum Wage for persons aged 18-21 inclusive

£4.83 per hour (from £4.77)

 

National Minimum Wage for young persons aged 16-17 inclusive

£3.57 per hour (from £3.53)

(A young worker is someone who is older than mandatory school leaving age and younger than 18)

 

 

Statutory Holiday Pay

From 1st April 2009 this increased to 5.6 weeks (28 days if working a 5 day week)

Part time workers are entitled to the same level of holiday pro rata

Under the Working Time Regulations, employees can only carry forward unused holidays in excess of the 4 weeks basic holiday entitlement

 

 

Payment in lieu & “buying out”

 

You cannot exchange any untaken leave for payment (effective April 2009).
